Cadence

Cadence is a native iPad app for speech and language therapists working with aphasia. A clinician records a client telling a story; Cadence keeps the audio, the transcript, and the analysis together, and turns the session into measures a clinician can chart — in under an hour.

It exists because the tool many clinics relied on for this work — MARS — is winding down. Cadence carries that job forward without sending a client's voice to anyone else's computer.

the loop

Record once, keep everything.

A session starts with an anonymised client reference and a recording. The transcript lands in an editor built so corrections are never lost — every edit is remembered and offered back as a suggestion the next time the same word is misheard. From there the analysis runs on its own: words, word classes, phrases, pauses, fluency, and the structure of the story itself. If the iPad is set down mid-analysis, the run resumes where it stopped.

story grammar

The shape of the story.

The headline result is story grammar: which structural elements of a narrative — setting, initiating event, plan, attempt, consequence — are present in the client's telling. Across sessions those elements build into a heatmap, so recovery becomes something a clinician can see and show, not just sense.

privacy

Data residency by design.

Client audio and transcripts live on the iPad, protected with full file encryption and excluded from cloud backup. Nothing is tracked. For clinical settings, data residency is not a policy promise — it's the architecture.
